Natural foods, such as nuts, berries, vegetables, are healthy for us. Some foods fall into a category of more-or-less healthy for us. Everyone needs to decide for themselves which foods to eat in small quantities or on special occasions. Likewise, everyone needs to decide for themselves based on their situations, beliefs, and health background what to include on a ‘never eat’ list – whether that will be a few items, many items or none.
I am proposing one ‘never eat’ to consider – artificial sweeteners. This is coming from someone that used to drink large volumes of Diet Coke, so no judgements. One of the problems with artificial sweeteners is they are so sweet. Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than table sugar. Artificial sweeteners make us crave them as well as other sweet things. They mess up our taste buds and appetite. Artificial sweeteners have been linked to obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and mood disorders.
How can we get to or maintain our natural appetite and metabolism while consuming something so unnatural?
I know it's very hard for people to stop drinking diet sodas. I am one of those people who really like diet Dr Pepper. Lately, I've been trying to drink more water which is a better option overall. Grant it...not an exciting one...but the best one.
Thank you so much, David. I really enjoy your articles! I am sharing them with some of the people at Novum. Stay well.
